SAGEING ON AGING

Sage: one distinguished for wisdom

My name is Smokie.
This is my website.
I have rules by which I live my life.

Rule #1: This life is short.  Live well.

My mantra:
My twenties were better than my teens.
My thirties were better than my twenties.
My forties were better than my thirties.
My fifties were better than my forties.
My sixtes are better than my fifties.

Why?

... because I know so much more
and I no longer sweat the small stuff.

Things change all the time, and so do I.
If I'm not changing then I'm dying.

I am choosing to change:
        • to change my mind about things I used to know for sure
but that aren't necessarily so;
        • to change my habits and behaviors to promote my own health
and the health of the planet.

As I think, so I am.

Here are some of my thoughts on aging gracefully:

Don’t complain.  No one wants to hear it.
How can I be graceful about aging if I'm complaining?

Take charge of your health.

 Practice preventative health care.

Take action before you get a diagnosis that requires drugs and/or surgery.

Be positive.

Learn to think and speak positively.

You’ll feel better and the people around you will be better for it.

What’s your goal for today?  For this week?  For this month?  This year?

The rest of your life?

Yes, today is the first day of the rest of your life.

What are you going to do with the rest of your life?

What if today was the last day of your life?

What would you do today that demonstrates who you are?

Why aren't you doing it every day?

What legacy are you leaving?

Sleep is important.

If your night time sleep is compromised, be sure to take naps.

Sleep deprivation is harmful to us in so many ways.

Eat better (more fruits and veggies) with smaller more frequent meals.

If you have stomach problems, try a digestive aid.

As we age, we tend to produce less stomach enzymes

so use a natural product to supplement your normal body process.

Doctors are very useful but their ability is limited to advice, prescriptions and surgery.  There are other options available to you before you get there

- investigate what holistic health practices have to offer.

Exercise the body.

Somehow some way find a way to move your body.

Studies show that you can actually “get younger” by exercising.

Exercise the brain.

Play cards, do crossword puzzles, sudoku, brain teasers,

explore new areas of interest, learn to play a musical instrument, etc.

Learning something new is the best way to get a better brain.

Challenge yourself.

Now, what say YOU?
